LIVING MYSTERY DRAMAS AS A SPIRITUAL, ARTISTIC AND SOCIAL ANTIDOTE TO THE (NEW) NORMAL LIMITATIONS OF LIFE
A series of experiential workshops, open to all, will be held at Peredur
Centre for the Arts, East Grinstead between January and July 2021, where we will explore together, playfully and profoundly, the extraordinary initiation journey enacted within ‘The Doorway to Initiation: A Rosicrucian Mystery’ (Rudolf Steiner’s First Mystery Drama).
The weekends will not be rehearsals – but open workshops, exploring this journey together, as we experience it now.
When the workshops are finished, those who wish to can also join rehearsals towards a performance, arising from what has happened in the
workshops, which will take place in September or October 2021.
Ideally people will attend every weekend – particularly those who wish to
take part in the performance – but it is also possible to attend only some or one of the weekends. The workshops will be run by Richard Ramsbotham and Gregers Brinch, who have extensive experience both individually and together of working in transformative ways, artistically and socially, with Mystery Dramas of all kinds, the most extraordinary on every level being those by Rudolf Steiner.

The workshops and performances will be put on by Fourfold Living Arts –

The cost for attending all 8 weekends is £400. The cost for attending a
single weekend is £75. Concessions negotiable.

After completing ‘The Doorway to Initiation’ the intention is then to work in
a similar way with Rudolf Steiner’s remaining three Mystery Dramas. This is planned as a transformative leaven – for the building up of new spiritual and social substance – during the critical years we are now facing. They are also planned to coincide with the centenary of the crucial last three years of Rudolf Steiner’s life. Thus:
Parts of the 1st Mystery Drama will be performed around Michaelmas 2021.
Parts of the 2nd Mystery Drama will be performed around Michaelmas 2022.
Parts of the 3rd Mystery Drama will be performed around Christmas 2023. *
Parts of the 4th Mystery Drama will be performed around Easter 2025. **
*Steiner’s stage directions indicate that the events of the 3rd Mystery Drama can be seen to take place in 1923. The final scene, though written many years before, also bears a mysterious connection to the ‘Christmas Conference’ of 1923. We will therefore be living with this at the time of the centenary of this event.
** The 4th Mystery Drama may likewise be seen to bear a profound connection to what took place in the anthroposophical movement during 1924, after which Rudolf Steiner died in March 1925. In 2024 and 2025, the centenary of these key years, we will therefore be living not only with their echoes, but also with the renewed ways they can speak to us today.
